Candidates

[hindura inkomoko]

I would like to nominate myself for temporary adminship (6 months) on the Kinyarwanda Wikipedia.

About me. I have been a Wikimedian since 2013 and have edited rw.wikipedia since November 2022, with about 5,600 edits here. I started on the French Wikipedia (~29,000 edits) and am now active in several other languages: Dutch (I have lived in Belgium for 24 years), English (near-native; extended confirmed on the English Wikipedia), Afrikaans (close to Dutch), Swahili (learning) and Kinyarwanda (an adopted language, through travel and family). I am also active on Wikidata (~142,000 edits, rollbacker) and Wikimedia Commons (~4,700 edits, file mover).

Why rw.wikipedia needs a local admin. This wiki currently has no local administrator, and only around 46 active users. Vandalism and hoaxes can stay online for a long time. For example, the article Pariki ya Nyungwe was replaced in January 2025 by an invented biography and remained that way for about 20 months, until I rewrote it recently. Global sysops and stewards help a lot, but they rarely read Kinyarwanda and cannot follow day-to-day local issues.

Recent work. I recently rewrote and sourced the articles on Rwanda's four national parks and the overview article Parike nkuru z'u Rwanda. I added infoboxes, references and images, and created the navigation template {{Pariki z'Igihugu z'u Rwanda}}. I also wikified and sourced biographies related to the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. I have also discussed this candidacy with Derrick, a former administrator here. We agree on a strategy to improve the overall quality of the articles, both their content and their structure (sources, wikification, etc.), and he supports the idea.

What I would do with the tools.

  • Revert and delete vandalism, hoaxes, spam and copyright violations; block vandalism-only accounts.
  • This is a relatively small wiki (about 10,000 articles) with few experienced users. I see it as an opportunity to help with structure and wikification – adding templates (Reflist, infoboxes) and links to Wikidata – in a teaching-oriented way, to help the community of editors grow.
  • Protect pages that are repeatedly vandalised.
  • Handle speedy deletion requests and maintain categories, templates and redirects.
  • Help with translating and maintaining interface messages (MediaWiki namespace).

How I would use them. I will act conservatively and transparently, explain my actions on talk pages, and leave content disputes to the community. I would ask for a temporary flag only. The community can review it before any renewal.

Thank you for your consideration. Score Beethoven (talk) 12:10, 1 Ukwakira 2026 (UTC)subiza
