English: 10 May 2008. This stuff was dumped two streets away (about 350 metres) from Haringey Council's Reuse and Recycling Centre in Park View Road N17.
Ex-councillor Brian Haley once issued a press statement rejecting the view that Haringey had the filthiest streets in the U.K. At the time Mr Haley was the 'Cabinet' member for Environment and Conservation. And, as he modestly described himself, "something of an expert" nationally and internationally on waste and recycling. By the Laws of Probability even Brian Haley would sometimes get things right. And on this occasion I had to agree with him. The street in the photo was pretty clean. Plainly, the problem was the mucky stuff which people dumped on the clean street - mattress; chairs; vacuum cleaner - and whatever lurked inside the white bin. Two days later, someone had added a large black plastic wastebin to the pile. ___________________________ Was there another chair for those intimate two-couple dinner parties? Yep. Round the corner. |
