English: Bicycles are a commonly used taxi system in most of the Rwandan rural areas. Commonly known as “taxi-riders”, a portmanteau of taxi and bicycle riding; a rider decorates his bike and puts the piece of the couch on the passenger seat for the passengers' comfort. Here, it’s in Burera district, a mountainous district in the Northern part of the country. Daniel Ntakirutimana is an 18-year old “taxi-rider” who uses his bike to make money to support his mother and siblings. He is taking a rest, as he waits for passengers. An inspiring story behind this business of taxi-riding is that, due to the high physical forces that the riders use while they transport people and goods, it produced many Rwandan professional cyclists that competed and won titles in Tour du Rwanda and many cycling competition around the world.
